The Story of the 1839 Amistad Rebellion

Truth Seeker Adwoa uses riveting details and artifacts to explore the Atlantic Slave Trade from the perspective of a descendant of the victimized. The performance also explores the Supreme Court's early decisions recognizing Africans as men, Connecticut’s delayed abolition and the region’s economic ties to the Trade, ending with a Q&A. The event is free, but registration is required.

“Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin assembled a choir at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Los Angeles, in 1972 to record her live album, Amazing Grace. Footage of this concert was shelved for decades over technical and legal issues. Come see the 2018 released to critical acclaim movie!

Pocket Moxie: A Happenstance Vaudeville

A light-hearted homage to the style and spirit of the Great Age of Vaudeville. Happenstance Theater breathes new life into classic old routines from a ventriloquist’s dummy to a magic act that goes awry, from novelty songs and a musical saw to waiters juggling meatballs, all with full live foley sound effects. Tickets are $20 for seniors.

Runway Rhythms

Step into the golden age of flight with the Salon Trio in this one-of-a-kind concert blending historic aviation film footage and live classical music. Performed in the gallery alongside the new Berliner exhibition, the program features live classical scores, including music from original Victrola records, an invention of Emile Berliner himself. Enjoy refreshments and meet the musicians after the performance.  Tickets are $5.00
