In an effort to reduce the use of fossil fuels, the City of College Park is offering a rebate to residents to help subsidize the cost of purchasing electric or battery-powered lawn care equipment. The amount of the rebate varies by equipment type, with a maximum amount of $250.

State Budget Wins for College Park
Several important projects in College Park were funded by the state budget in the 2025 session. The City’s Youth and Family Services facility was awarded $250,000 for landscaping and a meditative garden, and Attick Towers received $325,000 for a new fire suppression system. The College Park City-University Partnership was awarded $6 million for Discovery District projects. The State Highway Administration has received the funding needed to start the preliminary engineering work for MD 193 north to I-495 of the Baltimore Avenue Reconstruction project.

FY 2026 Budget Approved
During the May 20, 2025 City of College Park Mayor and Council Meeting, the Council unanimously passed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Budget. The budget maintains property tax rates at the same level as last year and the City will continue to fund its Elderly Tax Credit of $150. The City’s Capital Projects Fund of $10.3 million will pay for infrastructure projects including the Complete and Green Streets project, Duvall Field Renovation, and the North College Park Community Center.

Dementia Screening Tools Available
People who are concerned about memory function can now utilize an updated, easy-to-use screening tool known as AD8 (Ascertain Dementia 8) to help detect early cognitive changes associated with a number of brain-related illnesses, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and Lewy body dementia. AD8 is offered in several languages and can be self-administered or given by family members, loved ones, health care providers, and caregivers.

Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation provides free membership for seniors ages 60+ to County Golf Courses, Community Centers (including the Lakeland College Park Community Center), Senior Activity Centers (including the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center), and the Sports and Learning Complex. To get your free M-NCPPC Senior ID card, bring your proof of age and residency to any Community Center during operating hours.

Maryland Equips Distributes Free Medical Equipment
Maryland Equips is a joint initiative between the Maryland Department of Aging and the Maryland Department of Disabilities to collect and distribute free medical equipment and assistive technology.

Property Tax Break for Seniors
Prince George's County Council passed a new, revised bill that offers property tax breaks to seniors 65+ who've lived in the same home for at least 25 years. If your home is valued at $515,000 or less, you could qualify for a 20% property tax credit for up to five years starting in 2025!

The City of College Park has launched College Park Connect, a new mobile resident engagement application and website. They will allow residents to have a direct line of communication to request services and report issues such as potholes, graffiti, animal issues, litter, and more. The app will also have links to the City website, news, and upcoming events.
