The City of College Park's City Manager Kenny Young announced the appointments of Laura Reams as Assistant City Manager and Michelle Bailey Hedgepeth as Deputy City Manager. Ms. Reams begins her tenure with the City on February 2, while Ms. Bailey Hedgepeth will start her role on March 16, 2026.

The City of College Park is offering residents a $100 reimbursement for completing a $100 Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® assessment through a participating contractor. This limited-time pilot program helps homeowners and renters improve energy efficiency and access additional incentives worth up to $15,000.

The current federal budget, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” has positive tax implications for older Americans, including a higher standard deduction and a “bonus” temporary tax deduction for people 65 and older.

State Budget Wins for College Park
Several important projects in College Park were funded by the state budget in the 2025 session. The City’s Youth and Family Services facility was awarded $250,000 for landscaping and a meditative garden, and Attick Towers received $325,000 for a new fire suppression system. The College Park City-University Partnership was awarded $6 million for Discovery District projects. The State Highway Administration has received the funding needed to start the preliminary engineering work for MD 193 north to I-495 of the Baltimore Avenue Reconstruction project.


Dementia Screening Tools Available
People who are concerned about memory function can now utilize an updated, easy-to-use screening tool known as AD8 (Ascertain Dementia 8) to help detect early cognitive changes associated with a number of brain-related illnesses, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and Lewy body dementia. AD8 is offered in several languages and can be self-administered or given by family members, loved ones, health care providers, and caregivers.
Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation provides free membership for seniors ages 60+ to County Golf Courses, Community Centers (including the Lakeland College Park Community Center), Senior Activity Centers (including the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center), and the Sports and Learning Complex. To get your free M-NCPPC Senior ID card, bring your proof of age and residency to any Community Center during operating hours.

Property Tax Break for Seniors
Prince George's County Council passed a new, revised bill that offers property tax breaks to seniors 65+ who've lived in the same home for at least 25 years. If your home is valued at $515,000 or less, you could qualify for a 20% property tax credit for up to five years starting in 2025!
